You always hear about the importance of eating fruits and vegetables. Indeed, they are packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other phytonutrients that are beneficial to our health!
But did you know that eating seasonal produce is not only higher in nutrients, but also cheaper, better tasting, and more environmentally-friendly?!
Here is what is in season for fall:
Sweet Potatoes/Yams
Besides their amazing flavor, sweet potatoes are packed with vitamin A, vitamin C, manganese, copper, vitamin B3, fiber and more! Enjoy them baked, roasted, whole, chopped- any way you slice it, these are a great addition to your healthy diet!
Mushrooms
This earthy vegetable may not seem like much, but it is packed with nutrients and alternative healing powers. Mushrooms are low in calories per volume weight, making them a great filling veggie for weight loss. Some species have been found to improve immune functions.
Carrots/Root Veggies
Root veggies, including carrots, parsnips, turnips, celery root, yuca, jicama, radishes and more all grow underground and absorb a great amount of nutrients from the soil. They are high in vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium, magnesium and fiber!
Beets
These unique veggies are packed with nutrients and have a wide range of health benefits including supporting heart health, reducing risk of cancer, supporting vision health, respiratory problems and more. You just can’t beet them!
